We are recruiting for a Human Resources Manager to join our team in our Toronto office. The successful candidate must have a minimum of 7 years of progressive HR experience, including 3 years in an HRBP or HR Manager role, and will be responsible for aligning people strategies with business goals, advising and coaching leaders on performance and employee relations, leading onboarding/offboarding and change initiatives, managing complex HR matters in partnership with legal counsel, and driving HR programs and process improvements to enhance the firm member experience. McCarthy Tétrault employees benefit from a hybrid work environment. This position is to fill an existing vacancy.

 

Salary Range (Toronto Only): $95,000 - $115,000 annually 

 

The offered salary may vary based on the candidate’s job-specific knowledge, skills, and experience.

 

As a Human Resources Manager, you will be:

  • Leveraging business acumen to align people strategies with operational goals, for example workforce planning, turnover action planning and engagement initiatives.
  • Using people analytics and workforce data to diagnose trends, identify root causes, and recommend targeted interventions, ensuring decisions are evidence based and tied to measurable outcomes.
  • Serving as a trusted coach and advisor to leaders and employees, providing clear, pragmatic guidance on performance, development, team dynamics, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Supporting change management efforts and proactively identifying opportunities to support our firm members and organizations.
  • Driving execution excellence across HR initiatives, managing multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and ensuring high quality delivery of programs and exceptional firm member experience.
  • Responsible for the oversight of and continuous improvement of our Onboarding and Offboarding program in Toronto for our Business Services teams and Paraprofessionals such as new hire orientations.
  • Partnering with our business leaders in the Toronto office to support their talent and team needs, while ensuring that our policies and procedures, as well as our programs are well clearly communicated.
  • Coaching and developing direct report(s) to build their understanding of the business and to elevate the firm member experience.
  • Leading project management and process improvement initiatives to create, revise or improve policies, procedures and HR practices.
  • Providing support and coaching to managers in relation to performance management issues and processes, development of Performance Improvement Plans (“PIP”), receiving/giving feedback and providing calibration assistance where needed.
  • Working closely with Labour and Employment lawyers to manage complex employee relations situations, policy creation or template reviews
  • Responsible to manage the involuntary termination process, ensuring all actions comply with legal requirements, company policies, and ethical standards. Collaborating with legal counsel to minimize risk and ensure adherence to employment laws during the termination process.
  • Acting as Chair for the Monthly Toronto Leadership Round Table Meetings; planing and organizing monthly meetings delivering relevant content, creating and planning meeting materials, scheduling speakers as may be required, ensuring topics are beneficial and of interest to the Toronto Leadership team.
  • Co-Chairing the Joint Health and Safety Committee. Ensuring that incidents are properly followed up and resolved.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

As our ideal candidate, you will distinguish yourself by the following profile:

 

  • Bachelor degree with HR focus or post-graduate diploma with CHRP designation
  • 7 years of progressive HR experience with at least 3 years in an HRBP/HR Manager capacity supporting leaders.
  • CHRP/CHRL designation (or in progress) is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian employment law and Ontario Employment Standards Act (ESA); experience with accommodations and disability leave.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex HR cases.
  • Proven ability to coach leaders, influence without authority, and manage stakeholder expectations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated exceptional judgement and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and reporting and analytics (Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, UKG, or similar)
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
