We are recruiting for a Business Insights Manager to join our team in our Toronto office. The successful candidate must have a minimum of 6 years of experience in financial analysis, management reporting, and business insights, and will be responsible for providing strategic financial insights to improve revenue and profitability, leading firm-wide reporting, budgeting and forecasting processes, supporting pricing and rate-setting initiatives, driving process improvement and reporting automation, and supervising and developing a team of analysts. Salary Range (Toronto Only): $95,000 - $125,000 annually
The offered salary may vary based on the candidate’s job-specific knowledge, skills, and experience.
As a Business Insights Manager, you will be:
Insights & Strategic Advisory
- Playing a leading role in the team’s efforts to provide insights to the business on improving revenue and profitability results.
- Conducting external research and analysis of the Firm’s results against available benchmarking information, and providing insights into opportunities.
- Presenting and holding ongoing discussions with industry leaders on financial insights and opportunities.
- Providing Ad hoc reporting and analysis as required.
Firm Reporting & Analysis
- Co-leading with the Senior Manager & Team Lead on month-end and quarter-end reporting & analysis.
- Co-leading with the Senior Manager & Team Lead on the Firm’s revenue budgeting and forecasting processes, including preparation of executive-level presentations.
Pricing & Rates
- Supporting the Senior Manager in the annual Rate Setting exercise including presentation of recommendations to senior leadership and implementation of strategy.
- Assisting the business with client RFP responses and related pricing analysis.
- Leading the overall function of the rates maintenance process including timely resolution of requests.
Process Improvement & Automation
- Co-leading the development and maintenance of revenue and profitability templates, including automation of existing reporting to enable self-serve access for users.
- Supporting the Marketing team’s cross-sell/up-sell efforts by enhancing monthly reports and providing ad hoc reporting.
- Co-leading the efforts to implement new or enhance existing Business Insights processes and ensure all team members are appropriately trained.
- Assisting with maintenance of high-quality data in financial applications.
Team Support & Development
- Direct supervision of 2-3 analysts, with accountability for their personal and role-specific skills development; supporting the Senior Managers efforts to continuously increase the team’s analytical skills/capabilities.
- Supporting the on-boarding, training and coaching of all team hires, including efforts to cross-train on portfolio and functional tasks to establish continuity and succession plans.
- Acting as back-up for the Senior Manager on ensuring delivery of the team’s mandate.
As our ideal candidate, you will distinguish yourself by the following profile:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (eg. Accounting, Finance or Business Administration).
- Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or Master’s Degree (MBA)
- A minimum of 6 years of work experience displaying a strong knowledge of financial/management reporting concepts and data analysis.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills; adept at synthesizing data into meaningful insights in order to guide internal decision making. Good modelling and quantitative skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills: 3+ years experience in coaching/developing direct reports; ability to establish strong working relationships with others within and outside the Finance department in order to influence/obtain buy-in on common goals.
- Very strong written and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to summarize and present complex information in a clear and concise manner. Fluency in French highly desired but not required.
- Very strong time management skills; ability to juggle multiple priorities and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Works well with ambiguity; shows initiative in problem solving.
- Expert level proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables and macros (VBA). Very strong proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint. Solid working knowledge using Outlook, Microsoft Word. Experience with Microsoft OneNote and Teams an asset.
- Knowledge of SQL with some experience writing complex queries required.
- Experience with Business Intelligence applications (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, etc.) strongly desired. Proven proficiency with manipulating financial systems to retrieve required data; familiarity/experience with practice management applications (e.g. Aderant Expert) or legal industry tools (Iridium, Peer Monitor) an asset but not required.
- Familiarity/experience with SharePoint or other self-serve reporting platforms (e.g. Cognos, SSRS) desired but not required.
- Proven aptitude towards learning new applications.
