We are recruiting for a Senior Manager, Trust, Treasury, and Accounts Payable to join our team in our Toronto office. The successful candidate must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in with at least 5 years in a supervisory or management role in professional services environment preferably in the legal industry and will be responsible foroverseeing the law firm’s trust accounting, treasury operations, and accounts payable functions on a national scale. McCarthy Tétrault employees benefit from a hybrid work environment. This is a newly created position.
Salary Range (Toronto Only): $125,000 - $130,000 annually
The offered salary may vary based on the candidate’s job-specific knowledge, skills, and experience.
As a Senior Manager, Trust, Treasury, and Accounts Payable, you will be:
Trust Accounting
- Overseeing the management and reconciliations of client trust accounts in compliance with all applicable law society rules, regulations and firm policies.
- Developong and implementing policies and procedures for trust fund administration, segregation and reporting.
- Liaising with auditors, regulators and clients regarding trust account matters, including responding to trust audits, inquiries and different quarterly and annual reports.
- Ensuring timely and accurate operations, trust account reconciliations and reporting to the leadership.
Treasury Management
- Managing daily cash flow, banking relationships and liquidity to optimize the Firm’s financial position.
- Overseeing cash forecasting and debt management in accordance with Firm policies.
- Ensuring compliance with internal controls and treasury policies and acting as a signing officer on all operation accounts.
- Overseeing the management and administration of the Firm’s bank accounts, banking platforms and Corporate credit card program
Accounts Payable
- Supervising the accounts payable team to ensure timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices, expense reports and payments across all offices.
- Monitoring and improving efficiency, internal controls and compliance with the firm and regulatory requirements.
- Operating and administering Concur Solutions for the reimbursement of expenses to Firm members
Leadership and Strategy
- Leading, mentoring and developing a high-performing finance team.
- Identifying and implementing process improvements and automation opportunities in all areas to support the firm’s growth and operational excellence.
- Preparing and presenting reports on trust, treasury, and accounts payable activities to firm leadership and management committees.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including practice groups and office administrators, on finance-related projects and initiatives.
- Client Services to our lawyers and staff.
As our ideal candidate, you will distinguish yourself by the following profile:
- University degree and accounting designation (i.e. CPA Designation or equivalent).
- Minimum 10 years of experience, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or management role in professional services environment; preferably in the legal industry.
- Experience with a legal financial systems (e.g., Aderant, Elite or similar) is preferred and advanced MS Excel skills are required
- Familiarity with automation tools and digital payment platforms is an asset.
- Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multi-office environment.
- Experience in a national or multi-office law firm environment is preferred.
- Bilingual (French and English) is an asset.
