Bilingualism is required for this role, as it involves collaboration on a national level, and the successful candidate will be responsible for handling and following up on various requests from the firm's lawyers who serve both French-speaking and English-speaking clients. This position also requires the ability to interact daily with teams across our offices throughout Canada, where English is the predominant language. The role must be performed in both English and French. To ensure that the employee in this position can carry out their responsibilities independently and effectively, candidates must be able to communicate proficiently in both French and English, both verbally and in writing.

We are recruiting for a Bilingual Financial Analyst to join our team in our Montreal office. The successful candidate must have a minimum of 3 years of accounting or finance experience or a related undergraduate degree and will be responsible for for all commodity tax aspects, manage all bank reconciliations for the general accounts, and support month-end and audit processes. The Financial Analyst will support various Finance initiatives and Finance teams as required.McCarthy Tétrault employees benefit from a hybrid work environment.

As a Bilingual Financial Analyst , you will:

• Prepare monthly GST, QST, BCPST, BC Health Tax and quarterly VAT returns and analysis for all Firm legal entities
• Review, prepare and file tax adjustments for specific Firm expenses (including but not limited to pension plan, client recoveries, M&E)
• Management of tax audits and liase with tax auditors/authorities (including but not limited to CRA, Revenue Quebec, BC)
• Provide training and support to Finance employees on GST, QST, BCPST and VAT
• Prepare bank reconciliations for all general bank accounts
• Management and administration of Cheque Fraud Protection Program
• Prepare and record Firm members’ personal charge recoveries
• Prepare journal entries and support month-end close process
• Prepare various G/L account reconciliations and analysis
• Prepare monthly non-resident tax return
• Support the Firm’s annual financial audit processes
• Prepare various reports and support ad hoc requests as required
• Support various Finance teams (Accounts Payable, Trust, Cash Application, Billing, Financial Reporting) as required
• Assist with various finance projects as well partnering with other functional groups on projects impacting finance.
• Undertakes business process efficiency reviews, takes ownership of tasks and system automation opportunities.

As our ideal candidate, you will distinguish yourself by the following profile:

• Minimum 3 years of accounting or finance experience or a related undergraduate degree.
• Expert experience and knowledge in Commodity taxes (GST, QST, BCPST and VAT) and handling tax audits.
• Advanced excel skills, including familiarity with Pivot Tables, H-Lookup, V-Lookup, Macros, or demonstrated ability to learn quickly.
• Excellent organizational and high attention to detail.
• High ownership and accountability.
• Strong analytical skills and accounting technical knowledge.
• Bilingual (French and English).
