An employee in this position will be required to interact with clients and third parties who only understand and communicate in English. This position also requires that the candidate be able to interact fluidly with colleagues in our offices across Canada, where English is the predominant language.

We are recruiting for a bilingual junior paralegal to join our team in our Montreal office. The successful candidate must have a minimum of two years of experience in corporate law. McCarthy Tétrault employees benefit from a hybrid work environment.

As a bilingual junior paralegal, you will be:

• Preparing and drafting some or all of the following . Completing this work with supervised direction using department checklists, where applicable.
  • Incorporations and organizations of legal persons
  • Formations and organizations of partnerships
  • Basic corporate changes such as change of directors, officers, registered office and financial year end
  • Documentation pertaining to the declaration of dividends
  • Basic change in the articles such as change of legal name, number of directors, province or territory where the registered office is situated
  • Short-form amalgamations and simple continuances
• Additional duties and responsibilities may include some or all of the following:
  • Requesting and interpreting corporate searches, then reviewing and summarizing the information gathered.
  • Conducting basic minute book reviews, with supervision and direction.
  • Ensuring the ongoing compliance of assigned corporations and coordinate with the appropriate teams to maintain and update corporate records and public registries.
  • Ongoing training in corporate law.
  • Maintaining and updating databases.
  • Assisting with the preparation or filing of other documents.
• Keeping current on changes in legislation and government policy and informing others as appropriate.
• Ensuring quality and accuracy of work, and ensuring work is completed within reasonable time frames.
• Carrying out other related responsibilities as assigned. 

As our ideal candidate, you will distinguish yourself by the following profile:

• College Degree/Certificate in Paralegal studies.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in corporate law
• Bilingualism (French and English).
